Developer's Diary

Homo Ludens is a literary magazine which pays homage to the medium of video games and gamers of every type. Whether beginner or expert, few things match the joy of playing together. Sharing those experiences can lead to the discovery of new things about yourself, a friend, a parent - even a stranger half way across the world. That is why Homo Ludens seeks to share the stories of video games from all decades.

Growing up, I knew that video games would become a large part of my life. I was a competitor searching for new challenges and video games provided a near endless source of tests of skill, wit, and perseverance. Not only that, they contained worlds where everything had its place and purpose. It was only up to the player to learn what those things were. I absorbed every bit of information I could; created notes; collected guidebooks; and built my own theories in the process.

However, the greatest dispenser of information was the monthly gaming magazines my friends brought to school. The creation of Homo Ludens is indebted to my memories of us pouring over the magazines during our lunch breaks and tracing their lovely, glossy artwork. I hope that I preserved what made those magazines so special, as it is my wish to continue the celebration of games even long after they have left the public's eye.
